I was provided with a complimentary Little Pim LeapPad App to facilitate this review. The opinions in this post are 100% mine. You can read my full disclosure policy here.
As you probably know my family is a big fan of Little Pim products to teach kids a second language. We’ve really enjoyed using the Little Pim Kindle app and the smartphone app. It’s come in handy more than once when little hands need to be occupied while we’re on the go, and I don’t feel bad about letting the kids play with it because it’s a learning toy. LeapFrog also has tons of Little Pim apps and my kids love their LeapPads so we had to give this a try. I downloaded the Spanish: I Can Count app for the kids to check out.
This is really fun, almost like taking your Little Pim DVD with you! The kids are totally drawn in by Little Pim the bear and his buddies. They really are cute together. It’s a little tricky to get a good picture of a screen without it looking all pixelated, but on this screen they’re teaching the number ‘three’ and at the same time saying ‘tres’, the Spanish word for three. I have always really liked how Little Pim reinforces the new words in multiple ways: the word itself in print, being said out loud, and acting it out. I think that makes it so much easier for kids to make the connection.
In addition to teaching numbers, there are a total of over 60 words introduced in this video. Ninas are girls, something else that gets counted so we learn the number word and the word for girls.
And this little guy is eating a watermelon. That’s what that says, “He eats watermelon.” There’s fun music that plays in the background and there are little breaks from new words throughout the videos where the kids can just watch Little Pim and his friends play together. The video is about 35 minutes long and you can pause it and use the slider bar to scroll to whatever section you want to watch. This is really perfect for a car ride. Probably a better choice that putting in a movie!
Little Pim has a bunch of LeapFrog apps available and they’re all compatible with the LeapPad Ultra, LeapPad2, LeapPad1, LeapsterGS and Leapster Explorer. You can find apps to teach Spanish like this one, English/ESL, French, Chinese, Italian, and German. Check them out. They’re great for holiday travel!
