My local Wegmans in Lancaster, PA has been open for about two months now. It probably goes without saying at this point that I LOVE this store. Shopping at Wegmans isn’t just a grocery trip; it’s a whole experience. With their huge variety of quick dinners and easy entertaining solutions, Wegmans has been a time saver for me from the get go.
5 Ways to Save Time and Money at Wegmans
Saving time is great, but what about saving money? Well, time IS money, so many times they go hand in hand. But like most people, I don’t like to overspend on food, and I think every time I’ve shopped at Wegmans I’ve gotten smarter about my method and have been saving more money. So I’m spilling my tips! Below I’m sharing 5 easy ways to save time and money at Wegmans.
Join Wegmans Shoppers Club
If you shop at Wegmans, you need a Shoppers Club card. It’s free! And you can get one in stores or sign up online and have it mailed to you. Not only will you get in-store discounts, but Wegmans will send you occasional mailers, too.
By signing up as a Shoppers Club member, you will also receive the quarterly Wegmans Menu magazine in the mail, which is full of yummy chef-developed recipes, meal inspiration, and product suggestions.
Use the Wegmans Mobile App
The Wegmans Mobile App is a free download, and it’s a huge time AND money saver. Below are screenshots of a few of my favorite features.
The app is very well-organized and so easy to use. It even helps to keep me organized: the shopping list is sorted by aisle location in the store!
Store your Shoppers Club card in the app so you don’t have to dig around in your wallet for that. Scan it right from your phone and take advantage of the Shoppers Club savings, plus all of the digital coupons you ‘clip’.
There are tons of digital coupons available, sometimes for free items! If you are in a rush and don’t have time to scroll through, just hit ‘Clip All’ and every available coupon will be added to your Shoppers Club card.
By pairing your Shoppers Club card with the app, it is able to keep track of what you frequently buy and make suggestions about what you might need to restock. Okay, so I might have a little bit of an issue with the Ultimate Chocolate Cake. Notice I also frequently buy brussels sprouts. Life is about balance, right?!
There are recipes galore available in the app, and you can save them to your recipe box (pic on the left above) and with the touch of a button, add the needed ingredients to your shopping list (pic on the right). What a huge time saver that is!
Look for Wegmans Brand Products
I wrote an entire post on why I buy Wegmans brand products for my family, and not only does it save me money, but it allows me to feel good about what I’m feeding them.
In a nutshell, Wegmans has a huge organic selection, tons of local produce and meat that support farms near me, and their Consistent Low Prices help me save money without having to shop around for the best deals or clip coupons (though they do double coupons up to $.99 so if you’re a clipper, go for it!).
I specifically look for their Food You Feel Good About label on products I buy. Here’s what that means:
- Great taste
- No artificial colors, flavors or preservatives
- Free of trans fats from partially hydrogenated oils
- No high fructose corn syrup
- No artificial sweeteners
Did you know that nearly 90% of all Wegmans brand products meet this standard?! It’s actually hard to shop for Wegmans brand products that are NOT free of stuff we don’t want to feed our families. I just love how they make it easy to eat better.
Being able to quickly look for that yellow Food You Feel Good About banner and Wellness Keys on each product saves me time in trying to decipher labels and ingredients lists.
I also wrote an in-depth post about Wegmans EZ Meals and how I use these to save time on nights when I just can’t pull off prepping a meal. There are SO many options available, and they’re delicious.
Whether you just want to pop something in the microwave and have a meal on the table in 5 minutes, or if you want to take an oven-ready meal and cook it while you’re supervising homework, Wegmans has you covered. EZ Meals have been such a time saver on nights when I need the extra help, and when the alternative is going out to eat, they are a huge money saver, too.
While we’re talking about saving time, it’s a good time to share that I recently did all of my Thanksgiving dinner shopping at Wegmans and got every little thing in one trip. They think of everything! These fresh herb bundles were exactly what I needed for my stuffing recipe.
Need a hostess gift, or some seasonal decor for your own table? They have that too. I love the Home & Entertaining section of the store. The items change seasonally and everything is so pretty!
I am already eyeing up all of these poinsettias. They’re gorgeous!
And don’t forget that you can get beer and wine at Wegmans. Their selection is awesome, and I particularly appreciate that they carry so many of my favorite Pennsylvania wines and beers.
Dine In, Then Shop
We all know that if you shop when you’re hungry, you’ll buy more. Guilty as charged. So our routine at Wegmans is to dine in first, then do our shopping. I personally love that I can get a night off from cooking dinner and everyone is thrilled to help me grocery shop if it means we get to go to Wegmans.
As you saw above in my frequently purchased items list, we love their sushi and will often grab some of that for dinner. The hot bars are also a hit, and the Asian bar is our favorite. My son likes to get a turkey sub, and in Lancaster we have the Burger Bar where not only delicious burgers and salads are served, but mom and dad can enjoy a glass of wine or beer with their dinner, too.
These meals are reasonably priced and we’ve found that we spend a lot less eating out at Wegmans than we do if we go to another family restaurant. The variety of options for meals is huge, so everyone in the family can get exactly what they want. I don’t know about you, but that is a SANITY saver for me! No one arguing or being indecisive about where to have dinner? Yes, please! In the end, you save money on a dinner out, and save money on your groceries. Win/win.
Wegmans Instacart Delivery
When you’re seriously pressed for time, or in a situation that makes it really hard to get your own groceries, Instacart is a great solution. This service allows you to order your groceries online, and have them delivered to your door.
With Instacart, you can use the app to create your list, schedule a delivery or pick up time, and pay right online. You’re also able to add your Shoppers Club number to take advantage of any available savings.
You can probably tell that I LOVE walking through Wegmans to do my shopping. But there have been weeks when my life is in a tizzy and I can’t get out to do a weekly shopping trip. And there have been times when we’ve been home with sick kids, or some other life circumstance has made it really hard to get groceries. This is when Instacart is a lifesaver.
And (keeping it real here), if you don’t put the Ultimate Chocolate Cake on your Instacart shopping list, you won’t get it. What you pay for in delivery you more than save in missed impulse purchases, so I have found this to not only save time, but money too. (Don’t judge me if you are one of those people who can resist the chocolate cake in the store. I am good at other things.)
