Winner of 8 Tony Awards, Once the Musical is now showing at the gorgeous Hershey Theatre. I was invited to opening night last night and took my Mom as my date. It was SUCH a great performance. I’m still thinking about it today! The music, the story, the amazing cast. Wow. Just wow.
This show is soooo good. First, let me tell you it’s an adult show. Kids wouldn’t really get the story line, and there is some language in it that’s not meant for little ears. So get the babysitter lined up and leave the kids at home.
The music in Once is fantastic. In fact on your way out the door you can snag a CD! We loved all of the songs, and the dancing which is sort of subtle but enhances the mood of the performance. And the story. Ah, it’s a bit of a tearjerker. That’s the part I keep thinking about today…
Once is the celebrated new musical based on the Academy Award-winning film. It tells the story of an Irish musician and a Czech immigrant drawn together by their shared love of music. Over the course of one fateful week, their unexpected friendship and collaboration evolves into a powerful but complicated romance, heightened by the raw emotion of the songs they create together. Brought to the stage by an award-winning team of visionary artists and featuring an ensemble cast of gifted actor/musicians,Once is a musical celebration of life and love: thrilling in its originality, daring in its honesty… and unforgettable in every way.

This video is a great look at the cast and some of the scenes in the show. I feel like I want to go see it again!
The Hershey Theatre is just gorgeous. I took my Mom all through the lobby to show her the marble everywhere, and be sure to look up because the ceilings are equally stunning. In the lobby you can grab a snack and drink to enjoy during the show, and they have some Once merchandise available as well.
When Once was over, the star of the show, Stuart Ward, who plays the lead male came out to autograph his CDs! I love when the talent comes out to interact with the viewers. And let me tell you, this guy can sing and play guitar. Amazing!!!
Grab your tickets to see Once while it’s here in Hershey, PA. Shows will run through Sunday September 20 and you don’t want to miss this one!
