We began our Florida Keys vacation in the Upper Keys for a few days, and then we drove south to Key West to stay at Ocean’s Edge Resort. Ocean’s Edge is located on Stock Island, which is separated from Key West by a narrow channel and a quick drive. For a family vacation, it was the perfect spot.
Stock Island is more laid back, and while you are super close to all there is to do in Key West, you’re not super close to late-night noise. When traveling with kids, that’s a definite perk. Ocean’s Edge offers a shuttle service so you can easily enjoy the best of both worlds.

Family Resorts in Key West
Ocean’s Edge is beautiful with a tucked-away, tropical vibe from the moment you drive through the gates. Look at all those palm trees!

We had a lovely suite with two beds, and a separate sitting room. The real gem here is the balcony. We took in gorgeous views of the sun rising and setting over the marina. We didn’t bring our pup, but if you are traveling with your pet, they this is a dog-friendly hotel! Details about extra fees for pets are on the website.

This was the view from our balcony. There are six pools at this resort, and you’re free to swim in any of them. The resort is shaped like an ‘L’ with 3 pools on each leg of the ‘L’. They are big enough to enjoy, but not so huge that you lose sight of your kids.
And if one pool gets a little crowded (which really never happened during our stay), you can always hop out and check out the adjacent pool. There’s plenty of comfortable seating on both sides, plus some fun games like a huge Connect 4 board.

On one of the days of our trip we didn’t even leave the resort all day and just hung by the pool. It was one of our best vacation days! Servers will come around and take your drink and food orders, so you can sip and eat poolside and never have to stop relaxing. Now *that* is a vacation!
Ocean’s Edge Dining

There’s one restaurant at Ocean’s Edge, the Yellowfin Bar and Grill. If you want to have a sit-down meal here, they offer breakfast, lunch, and dinner. And if you just want to pop in and grab a cocktail or a coffee, you can do that too.
They serve Starbucks at the coffee bar and have plenty of quick eats available.

There’s lots of outdoor seating, too, so you can enjoy the beautiful view while you dine.

We ordered off the poolside menu and the food was fantastic! How smart is it to serve chicken tenders in this bowl? They make it easy to keep the kids fed while you’re soaking up the sun on your vacation.

After some chicken tenders and a Starbucks, this girl was ready to relax. If you look to the left behind her, you can see the couches and curtains tied to the pillars. We hung out in that area, too.
The seating around the pools is so comfortable, so it really feels like you’re at a special, relaxing resort and not the community pool that has lounge chairs lined up one right after the other.

If you want to be more active than we were (hey, pool days are important), Ocean’s Edge offers several opportunities to get moving. They have bikes, paddle boards, and kayaks available to sign out for free for a period of time.
Key West Resorts with Marinas

If you’re into boating or planning a fishing excursion, you can do that here too. The marina includes 165 slips. We didn’t do any boating, but we walked along the harbor and took in the view, which including some fantastic sea life: sharks, tarpon, and we even saw a manatee!!

Isn’t he so cool?! Definitely go walk around out here. We spotted so many sharks and the kids thought this was so cool. So did I!
Ocean’s Edge Resort is the ideal spot for a Key West family vacation. It has all the amenities to make you feel relaxed and comfortable, and it’s family-friendly with a great on-site dining, lots of pools to swim in, and other fun activities to keep the kids entertained. If you want to enjoy Key West but still have a retreat that’s not right in the hub of the party scene, this is definitely the way to go.
