Are any of you guacamole fans? Mmm…we love the stuff! My kids are pretty little and haven’t developed a taste for avocado yet though I keep offering it. My husband and I could dip all the day long and our go-to brand has always been Wholly Guacamole. So I was more than a little excited when a cooler filled to the brim with all of this deliciousness showed up at my door. (Internal dialogue: Take picture, text husband, find chips, induce guac coma.) I can assure you there is a such thing as a guacamole hangover. And it’s as comfy as it sounds. My kids promptly took off with the squeezy avocado (gosh, they didn’t even let me get that in the pic but it’s now a well-loved toy, happily riding around my son’s train track) and the green Wholly bracelet while I sampled my way to happiness.
Before I tell you about some of these amazingly yummy Wholly Guacamole products, let me tell you what I love about Wholly Brand in general.
- They’re made with natural ingredients. You won’t find any weird chemicals or preservatives in these. I love looking at an ingredients list and being able to actually recognized and pronounce everything that’s on it.
- Their products are healthy. Salsa, besides being delish, contains a bunch of vegetables and herbs. And Guacamole is mainly avocados which is a great source of monounsaturated fat, a heart-healthy fat that not only helps you feel full without overeating, but that is actually good for your body. A good fat. I can get behind that. 🙂
- Wholly Guacamole and Salsas are versatile. We snacked on them and used them to make lunches and dinners. You can use these goodies as a dip, or you can use them as a meal ingredient. More than once I’ve thrown together what seems to be a well-planned out meal on a whim when I have slacked on the menu planning but Wholly Guacamole came to my rescue.
- Wholly Guacamole can be frozen. We had to freeze some of it so it didn’t spoil. We did get a ton of guac and there’s only so fast you can eat it. Fortunately Wholly Guac freezes well for up to 3 months. Just don’t be the poor guy who forgets to take it out of the fridge the night before, wandering around sad, asking his wife, “Is there a way to defrost this quickly?” Poor, sad guy.
So which products did we like the most? Pft. Ask me which ones we didn’t like. That’s a much shorter list. Kinda non-existent actually. We loved it all. I’d love to tell you about the salsa but my dear husband scarfed it down with a bag of tortillas while I wasn’t looking it. Apparently it was I-can’t-put-this-down good. He said they had a nice zip to them that you don’t find in other store-bought salsas.
My very favorite product was the Guaca Salsa. The first night we got our cooler we made quesadillas and I put a hunk of Guaca Salsa on every bite. After my fifteenth, “Oh my gosh, this is so freakin good”, my husband finally told me that was enough and I carried on in silence. Perhaps he wasn’t as enthusiastic after eating a tub of salsa. Hmpf. Later that week I made chicken for dinner and dressed up the leftovers for a yummy lunch by serving it with this Guaca Salsa. Soooo good! Anything that can easily make the leftovers appealing is a winner in my book!
Speaking of lunch, the 100 calorie packs were perfect for a lunch-size portion. You can actually freeze these and stick them in your lunch bag as a cooler. They’ll keep your lunch cold and be defrosted by the time it’s time to eat. I dipped bell peppers in these snack packs for a light lunch that filled me up without having to eat a ton. It’s a little tricky to squeeze all the contents out of the pouches, so you might find yourself licking out every last drop. Just sayin’.
One day my son and I had a playdate planned with some friends and I wanted to serve up a nice lunch minus all the hassle of cooking a nice lunch. So I bought a loaf of crusty Italian bread, some American cheese, and a tomato. I made grilled cheese with the bread, cheese, and some butter spread, and then when the cheese was melted, I pulled the bread apart and stuck a tomato slice and a squeeze of Wholly Avocado inside. I wish I had a picture of my friend’s face to show you. “Lindsay, this is gourmet. Seriously, I’m making this for dinner tonight.” The next time that I saw her (only about a week later) she told me she had made it three times since she was at my house. True, it’s addictive. But she’s right: it seems like a gourmet meal and it’s just a grilled cheese! That’s what I love about Wholly products. You can use them to turn the ordinary into something special in a snap.
Another night I whipped up these roasted veggies and served it with pasta and a dollop of guacamole. Mmm…it was so good. I had never put guacamole on pasta before but honestly, it’s good on almost everything.
