Wegmans sushi is restaurant quality with the convenience of one-stop shopping. Fresh, delicious, and so quick and easy to grab, Wegmans Alpine King Salmon Sushi and King of Poke poke bowls hit my shopping list regularly.

I love sushi. I could eat it daily and be a happy girl. Fortunately, Wegmans makes it so easy to satisfy my cravings. If you’ve ever been on the fence about grocery store sushi, Wegmans and I are about to cure you of that hesitation.
All of the photos in this post were taken by me and they all include only Wegmans products. It’s true! This sushi looks and tastes like restaurant-quality sushi (because it is!), and you can grab it as you do your weekly grocery shopping. Are you in love yet? I am!
High Quality Standards for Sushi
I’ve noticed that many grocery stores sell sushi now. I don’t know about you, but I don’t buy sushi just anywhere. We eat the raw sushi, and I need to get that from a reputable source. This is why I feel 100% comfortable getting my sushi at Wegmans.
I have a little bit of a Wegmans addiction, and trust their quality on pretty much everything, but I actually went into the store near me in Lancaster, PA and spoke with the Executive Chef about what makes Wegmans sushi rolls, bowls, and meals stand out. I got a pretty impressive lesson on what Wegmans quality means to them.
Wegmans has fish harvested specifically for their stores. They are finding their own sources and dealing directly with them to bring these products to their customers. Knowing exactly what they are getting and working directly with the supplier allows for the best quality control.
The employees making the sushi are actually trained to make sushi! Maybe that sounds ridiculous but I don’t think that’s at all common in a grocery store. In my local Wegmans, the head Sushi Chef was trained in his family business in Manhattan, and he has helped train other staff in his store. One of the cool things about Wegmans, and why it is consistently named one of the best places to work, is that they are willing to train anyone who has shared values and wants to learn. Experts and a staff with the desire to learn create consistently high quality sushi products.
Shopping for sushi at Wegmans is so easy, too. Everything is color coded with raw rolls in blue packaging, cooked rolls in red, and veggie rolls in green. The color-coded labels on the case match so you can quickly find what you’re looking for.
Wegmans Alpine King Salmon Sushi
Salmon sushi is my favorite and Wegmans Alpine King Salmon is amazing. It’s buttery and mild with the best flavor and texture. It’s harvested from the pristine glacial Alpine waters of New Zealand exclusively for Wegmans.
Wegmans sushi is all Food You Feel Good About, which means there are no preservatives, artificial colors or flavors. It is all made without gluten-containing ingredients, too. Sushi is made fresh daily, and at the end of the day, anything that has touched rice is composted. Everything in the case is freshly made, and if you see something you want and you want it made fresh, just ask! The sushi chefs will hook you right up.
One of my favorite selections is the King Salmon Combo with seaweed salad. It includes both Alpine King Salmon Nigiri and a classic salmon roll. Pair it with Seaweed Salad with flavorful soy-sesame vinaigrette. So delicious! My kids’ favorite is the King Salmon California Roll with Alpine King Salmon, avocado, cucumber, and toasted sesame seeds.
Every ingredient that goes into Wegmans sushi rolls and bowls is of the best quality. The pickled ginger is made from a smaller ginger root so that it’s tender and flavorful. The first ingredient in their Food You Feel Good About wasabi is real Japanese wasabi from the plant, not powder-based with horseradish or food coloring, giving it that potent kick you’d expect from authentic wasabi. The rice is a traditional Koshihikari short-grain rice that’s freshly milled just for Wegmans in California each month.
The best ingredients give them the best quality products, and the best quality products taste amazing. It’s pretty incredible to me that I can grab sushi of this caliber while I’m doing my grocery shopping!
Wegman’s Poke Bowl: King of Poke
When I’m in the mood to turn my sushi into a whole meal, Wegmans Poke Bowls fit the bill. I absolutely love these. They are so flavorful and full of fresh, delicious ingredients. They’re easy to eat too with everything in one bowl.
The Wegmans King of Poke poke bowl includes quinoa and brown rice with Alpine King Salmon, avocado, and fresh veggies, topped with poke sauce, pistachios, and sesame seeds. If it sounds amazing, that’s because it is.
New poke salads are coming out this summer. I got to sample a King of Poke salad and I LOVE it. It’s similar to the poke bowls, but instead of grains, the salad includes zucchini noodles and arugula. If you’re trying to go low carb or just like a lighter, more salad-like meal, this is going to be right up your alley. It was amazing!
Fresh Sushi On The Fly: The Convenience Factor
I need to shout out a big thank you to Wegmans for making it easy for me to enjoy sushi on the regular. The convenience of being able to grab my favorite rolls and poke bowls while I’m shopping for my weekly groceries cannot be overstated.
We actually think this sushi is BETTER than anything we’ve gotten in a local restaurant. Just look at it! I picked this up in the store, drove to my house, put it in the fridge, and a few hours later I got it out to take some pictures and dig in. And after all that it still looks this amazing.
My favorite sushi date, my daughter, dug right into this deliciousness. That’s just one more thing we can’t get enough of at Wegmans. (Add it to the list with their Ultimate Chocolate Cake!)

The most recent edition of Wegmans Menu magazine has a great feature on their sushi (is it wrong to want to eat the food right off the pages?), too.
