The Strasburg Rail Road in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania offers so many different options for fun on the rails. They have all kinds of different train ride options available. My kids loved it when we visited for a Day Out With Thomas. And we were excited to go back for a bit of a longer ride, this time on the Coach, to see a little more of the countryside and enjoy a train ride on a beautiful fall day.
The Strasburg Rail Road was founded in 1832 so there’s a ton of history here. The restored train cars are so neat. We all loved climbing in for a ride and during our trip we got to learn about the history of the line. Of course the kids mostly enjoyed looking out into the fields and letting the wind blow on them!
The train station itself is so quaint with cute little shops and a cafe. There are a couple other activities to do there for kids: a small playground and a little train ride, some hand-cranked cars, too. Unfortunately this stuff all costs extra so we took a pass on it. The train ride was plenty of entertainment for the day.
My son Leo enjoyed his window seat and before we took off out of the station he watched other passengers buy tickets. The ride we went on was what they call the Regular Train Car and we sat in Coach. There are also tickets available for Open Air Cars, First Class Lounge and Parlor, and Dining Cars. They even have a Murder Mystery train ride which sounds like so much fun to me! There are trains for special events, too, like a Wine and Cheese ride, a Day Out With Thomas, and some really fun seasonal events.
Lily loved looking out the window! Riding on a train is so much fun in the fall. We had perfect weather and the scenery in Lancaster County is just beautiful. Check out this pic I took. We were on the train when I snapped that shot with my phone. Gorgeous! It’s a truly relaxing ride and you’re out for about 45 minutes which is perfect with little kids.
We just happened to be there on the same day that this group of awesome Santas was riding the train. My kids (and my Mom!) got such a kick out of it! Which one do you think is the real Santa? 😉 You just never know what kind of adventure you might have at the Strasburg Rail Road!
