Last night my husband and I were watching a special on TV, a show on September 11, 2001. Ten years later it is still so hard to watch the events of that day. It’s also hard to believe that 10 years have gone by and that many kids today weren’t even alive when this event that was such a turning point in our history happened.
I’m sure you all remember where you were when you got the news. I was at work and a colleague from another office called to tell me what was going on. What happened that day is as unbelievable to me now as it was then.
I watch these TV specials in awe of the men and women who risked their own lives, gave their own lives, to help complete strangers. I’m in awe of the strength of those who suffered the loss of a loved one that day in such a violent, unexpected way. And I’m inspired by the stories of those who have carried on, honoring those they lost, and those whose bravery made all the difference to some on that day.
I will certainly never forget September 11, 2011 and the heroes of that day. Today I’ll take a few moments to keep them and their families in my thoughts and prayers.
If you’re looking for a way to honor the memories of those lost on 9-11, check out the September 11 Pay It Forward Event on Facebook. Nearly 80,000 people have pledged to help someone else, anyone else, with any random act of kindness they choose. What a great idea! Check it out and join in here.
