Saving Mr. Banks Trailer Released: The Story of How “Mary Poppins” Made It To The Big Screen

SAVING MR. BANKS

I am so excited to be able to share this with you! Saving Mr. Banks is a new movie coming out in December that is actually a movie about the making of a movie!  And it’s about the untold  backstory of the making of the classic film, “Mary Poppins.”  The film stars Tom Hanks who is just an incredible actor. I swear, everything he touches turns to gold.  Along side him is Emma Thompson, an amazing actress herself.

Did you know that Mary Poppins was a book before it was a movie?  I didn’t!  Walt Disney himself promised his kids that he’d make their favorite story into a film and this is the story of how that came to be.  I just watched the new trailer a few times and am totally in awe. I can’t wait to see the movie!  You have to check it out:

What do you think?  I’m so excited to see the whole thing! The acting looks great and it just looks like a truly magical story.

Two-time Academy Award®–winner Emma Thompson and fellow double Oscar®-winner Tom Hanks topline Disney’s “Saving Mr. Banks,” inspired by the extraordinary, untold backstory of how Disney’s classic “Mary Poppins” made it to the screen.

When Walt Disney’s daughters begged him to make a movie of their favorite book, P.L. Travers’ “Mary Poppins,” he made them a promise—one that he didn’t realize would take 20 years to keep. In his quest to obtain the rights, Walt comes up against a curmudgeonly, uncompromising writer who has absolutely no intention of letting her beloved magical nanny get mauled by the Hollywood machine. But, as the books stop selling and money grows short, Travers reluctantly agrees to go to Los Angeles to hear Disney’s plans for the adaptation.

For those two short weeks in 1961, Walt Disney pulls out all the stops. Armed with imaginative storyboards and chirpy songs from the talented Sherman brothers, Walt launches an all-out onslaught on P.L. Travers, but the prickly author doesn’t budge. He soon begins to watch helplessly as Travers becomes increasingly immovable and the rights begin to move further away from his grasp.

It is only when he reaches into his own childhood that Walt discovers the truth about the ghosts that haunt her, and together they set Mary Poppins free to ultimately make one of the most endearing films in cinematic history.

This is actually the first film to depict Walt Disney himself. Imagine that!  With all the Disney films we know and love, this is the only one where someone plays Disney himself.   So cool!

Saving Mr. Banks (you have to watch the clip to understand that title!) will come out in limited release on December 13 and open wide on December 20, 2013.  You can stay up to speed with all of the latest news on this movie by following along on Facebook.  Of course I’ll keep you posted, too!

Saving Mr. Banks comes out on December 20, 2013!

Retweet and tell your friends!      😀
