If you know me or have been reading my blog for any amount of time you might know I’m a total bookworm and LOVE to read. So I was really excited when author Carly Duncan sent me an email letting me know she had a new book coming out and offering me a copy to review. Behind You is a a well-crafted mystery that leaves you guessing until the very end. Even with the limited time I have to read, it was unputdownable for me…which meant there were a few loads of laundry put off here and there until I knew who done it!
Something I love about a good book is when you get to the end and think how well-planned the plot was, that the author had thought through exactly how everything was going to play out before it was written. It was like that with this book which kept me totally hooked.
When a mysterious attack lands Heather in the hospital on the brink of death, her family rushes to her side. Through an inconvenient maze of shadowed memory and family secrets, Heather can trust only herself to discover if her husband, parents, sister or aunt tried to kill her. During the course of their own narratives, each character confesses to their various crimes of passion, envy and ignorance, weaving Heather’s mystery into an untraditional tale about seizing the opportunity to start over.
Behind You starts of being told from the main character, Heather’s point of view. She’s attacked and ends up in the hospital and her family is left waiting to see if she lives or dies. After the attack each chapter is told from alternating points of view: her parents, sister, husband, and aunt.

Oh, what a tangled web we weave. This family has some serious dysfunction. It seems like everyone had a motive and opportunity. I thought I had a pretty good idea of who did it but the ending completely caught me by surprise! After I finished the book I actually went back to the beginning to reread the first couple of chapters and jog my memory. Was this really possible?!
I can’t give it away of course, so I’ll end my review there and tell you to go check out some of the other great reviews on Amazon. If you like a good mystery and some interesting family drama, this book is perfect.
