Raise your hand if you’ve made it your New Year’s resolution to FINALLY get organized this year. Both hands up over here! I set the same goal every year and start strong and then…well, I bet you can relate. (Can’t you?) One of my biggest problems is finding a home for everything. We get a lot of mail and the kids’ toys have so many little pieces. Well, let’s just say that if for every thing there is a place, we need more places. So I was very excited to have the opportunity to work with ReStockIt.com, an online business supply company with a huge selection of products for your home or business. They have some great solutions to help you organize almost any room in your house.
It was just before Christmas when I was about to start working with ReStockIt.com and I was volunteering at my daughter’s Christmas party in her first grade classroom. Her teacher said to me and another mom, “So has anyone wrapped anything yet?” Christmas was 4 days away. See, I knew I wasn’t the only disorganized person around here. Lily’s teacher is awesome and I’m lucky enough to get to go in and volunteer once or twice a week. I see all she does for the kids and thought this would be a good opportunity to pay it forward to her. I’m not wrapping your Christmas gifts on Christmas Eve (mostly because I’m busy wrapping my own that day) but I will help you organize your classroom a bit!
Together Mrs. T. and I used two great products from ReStockIt to whip her classroom, or a corner of it, into shape! This Safco 12-Bin Economy Storage Organizer is perfect for storing toys, crafts, games, office supplies, tools, and all kinds of other little things. The bins come with the unit and they’re about shoe-box size. So they’re big enough to hold a decent amount. Still the unit is not HUGE which is nice. It doesn’t take up a large amount of floor space.
The Storage Organizer arrived at my door one day and it’s a bit heavy but not unmanageable. I took it to my daughter’s classroom after school one day and Mrs. T. and I put it together. It took us about an hour. The directions are fairly simple and although there’s no text on the instruction sheet the pictures are really easy to follow and everything is labeled. The little dowels that you insert into the holes to hold the pieces together are dyed blue. I think this is to make it easier to line up the holes and it does help. I think it would be harder to see if they were the same color as the wood. We did end up with blue fingers when we were done but none of it rubbed off on the wood and it washed right off.
We had a little trouble fitting the top on, the very last piece, because you have to line up several dowels at once into multiple holes. We needed a rubber mallet which we didn’t have but Mrs. T. brought one in the following week and finished the job. Unfortunately it scuffed up the finish a bit which she was able to fix up with some tape. I think if I had that to do over again I might have laid a towel down on top of the top shelf before hitting it with the mallet to protect the finish. We didn’t think of that beforehand so a heads up next time you’re putting furniture together! Regardless, it doesn’t change the way the unit works and a piece of contact paper over the top will totally cover that (if it doesn’t get covered with school supplies first!).
Doesn’t it look great in her room? I have to say that Mrs. T. is NOT what I’d call a disorganized person. It seems to me like everything has a place in her classroom. But there is a LOT of stuff! She does so many great activities and games and “Brain Work” with the kids, it really helps to have a designated yet central spot to keep all of this in. I think the Storage Organizer looks fantastic and even though we just got it set up she’s already found a home for lots of her games and activities for her students.
To really keep everything in its place we also used this Casio Portable Thermal Label Maker. As a mom I can tell you that having things labeled is not only helpful for me to know where to put everything, but it helps the kids know where to put their supplies when they’re done, too. (Note: The labels don’t talk so you might still have to say ‘It’s time to clean up”. Ad nauseum. Just sayin’.)
Mrs. T took this label maker home with her and got it set up in a snap. She said it’s really easy to get it ready to use and a cinch to make your labels with. It has a lot of fun features, too! You can choose a bunch of different fonts and sizes to create exactly the labels you need. These are perfect for so many things: All those totes of Christmas decorations in the basement, the kids’ supplies, folders and binders in your office, and tons of other things that need a little help in the organization department. Once Mrs. T figures out what’s going in each of her new bins she’ll have them all labeled up to be organized forevermore!
ReStockIt.com carries a huge assortment of supplies for your home and office. Or home office! You can find over 200,000 items made by over 1,500 brand name manufacturers that ship direct from one of their 57 warehouses. Speaking of shipping, ReStockIt.com offers free shipping, no minimum order, on thousands of items every day and most orders are shipped the same day, too. I love that because if there’s one thing I hate it’s paying shipping. I had my goodies just a couple of days after they were ordered. If you’re like me, running out of ink with no back-up in the drawer, this definitely comes in handy!
But what I love most about ReStockIt.com are their low prices. Their prices are so competitive that if you find a lower price within one week of your purchase, they’ll refund you the difference up to 110%. WOW! That’s one nice low-price guarantee. And because they sell so many great brand name products you don’t have to wonder if you’re trading off a good price for good quality. You get both!
If you’re looking to whip yourself into organizational shape this year, have an office or classroom that needs a little clutter control, or even if you’re one of those super-organized people (JEALOUS), ReStockIt.com is a great place to shop for all of your supplies. Be sure to follow ReStockIt.com on Facebook and Twitter so you can be the first to hear about their latest products and promotions! I just might have caught a promotion lately on their Twitter page that involved free cookies. 😀
