This is about the time of year when I start planning my veggie garden. It’s one of my favorite things about summer. We plant tomatoes, bell peppers, one variety of hot pepper, onions, and tons of herbs. The picture above is my garden two summers ago when we went a little wild with sunflowers and mini pumpkins. They took over the garden, but oh how the kids loved them! I grow a ridiculous amount of basil and make batch after batch of pesto to freeze for the winter. Mmmm….I can almost taste it. (Look for the recipe this summer!)
We’ve experimented with different things to grow our vegetable garden and have decide that we want to keep it all organic. The more you find out about all the junk and chemicals that find their way into our bodies through our food, personal care products, even our dishes, the scarier it is. I love being able to pop out the back door, grab a handful of whatever I need out of the garden, and whip up some dinner. It’s convenient, it’s super frugal, and it’s healthy, especially when I know I’ve only used organic products in that bed.
Whitney Farms® is the maker of all-natural organic plant food. There are no additives, just ingredients from the Earth that are designed to give you big, beautiful flowers and a bursting veggie garden. They make soils, too, which is perfect for any container gardening. Last year I experiemented with herbs in my pots. Some did better than others. Live and learn! But I love the idea of being able to stick a pretty herb or lettuce in with some flowers and still feel good about feeding it to the family because it’s growing in organic soil.
Over the past 25 years Whitney Farms® has perfected their products so you can expect that they won’t dust up when you’re pouring them, smell like manure (three cheers for that!), and that they contain all the beneficial microbes and nutrients your plants need to thrive. Isn’t it amazing that there are all-natural products that just as effectively help you grow your garden than the chemical-laden varieties? Thank goodness.
If you’re growing a veggie garden this year, think about going organic, too. No one wants nasty chemicals in their food, right? Right now Whitney Farms® is making it easy to give them a try by offering a $3 off coupon on their plants and soils. Look for it next time you hit your local garden center. I’ll be planting my garden in about 2 weeks or so and plan to give it a try, too!
Happy organic gardening!
