We built our house six years ago and it feels like we’re still decorating it. All the paint, furniture, fixtures, curtains, and everything else all costs money that adds up pretty quickly. Still, it’s important that your home feel, well, homey so I love when you can make one simple addition and change the whole look and feel of a room. That’s just what we did in our living room with a Mohawk Home area rug.
Mohawk Home makes flooring of all kinds and awesome rugs including kitchen and bathroom rugs and larger area rugs. They sell their products in a bunch of popular retail stores: Target, Kohl’s, Home Depot, Walmart, Lowe’s, Bed, Bath & Beyond, Sears, JCPenney, Anna’s Linens, and Mendards. And they’re made in the USA! I usually like being able to see what I’m buying to match the decor in my house so having the option of shopping in your local store as opposed to strictly online is a bonus. However, having said that, I did shop for my Mohawk rug online and the one I chose is a spot-on match to what I saw online. No surprises or the colors not being what I imagined they would be. It was just as it was pictured online.
We shopped online for probably an hour before we chose the rug we wanted for our living room. Mohawk has tons of great styles to choose from. They range from a very contemporary look to more conservative rugs. We like to be a little fun with our decor without getting wacky so we chose the Capostrano Printed Rug. Isn’t it cool? We have tan colored wall-to-wall carpet in the living room and the couch and chairs are a brownish, goldish color, so we thought this would match but it has some great darker, bolder greens and greys in it that we figured would liven up the room. Too much brown is just…blah. And that’s kind of what our living room looked like: one big expanse of blah.
After we ordered the Mohawk rug it shipped really fast. We got it within about a week and it was well-packaged to stay dry and protected. You have to wonder how they ship items this big, right? It was rolled up tightly and wrapped with plastic around the middle to keep it together, then the whole thing was bagged in a thick plastic bag. As well as it was packaged it was very easy to get into which I love. I can’t stand messing with packaging when you just want your new goodie! So we quickly unrolled the rug into our living room and I fell in love with it right away. Doesn’t it look great?!
We have another 5’x8′ area rug in a different part of our living room so I can make some comparisons. First of all, the colors on the Mohawk rug are much more vibrant. I don’t think that’s because the colors in the rug we chose are bold and dark. I think it’s more a quality issue. The Mohawk rug is much thicker and heavier. I am hoping this means it isn’t going to curl up on the edges like our other rug does. So far so good! The other thing I really like about this rug is that it’s textured. It’s not just a flat finish. It has some depth to it with a pattern or design in the texture of the rug. Can you see what I mean in the image above? There’s nice depth to the rug itself, giving it a richer look.
Compare the before picture to the after picture above. Isn’t it amazing how just one thing can totally transform a room? This rug sells for under $150, way less than what you might spend on furniture or other decor to spruce up your house, plus it could not have been easier to ‘install’. No assembly, no tools, just roll it out and there ya go! The whole room looks 100% better within 2 minutes. Now that’s home decorating I can handle!
