One of our favorite family movies is available to bring home today! Despicable Me 3 is now available on Blu-Ray and DVD and you can find it your favorite stores. With the holidays coming right up, this is the perfect stocking stuffer for the kiddos.
Despicable Me 3 is the #1 animated comedy of the year, and with an All-New Mini Movie, Minion Moments and more, it’s just the thing to keep the entire fam entertained over the holiday break (and beyond!). And this is really cool: the Best Buy exclusive features a collectible, limited edition Steelbook that includes the great features of the Despicable Me 3 Blu-ray Combo Pack and it comes in the coolest metal case. You know how you the kids can never find their favorite movies? Problem solved with this one. The case totally stands out and is so unique! And it won’t TEAR. Hallelujah for that!
Illumination, the studio that brought you Sing, The Secret Life of Pets and the Despicable Me franchise, continues the adventures of Gru and his family in Despicable Me 3. After he is fired from the Anti-Villain League for failing to take down Balthazar Bratt, the latest evil mastermind to threaten humanity, Gru finds himself in the midst of a major identity crisis. But when a mysterious stranger shows up to inform Gru that he has a long-lost twin brother — a brother who desperately wishes to follow in his twin’s despicable footsteps — the former super-villain rediscovers just how good it feels to be bad.
I just love these characters! Gru has to be my favorite but the whole family together – Lucy and the girls, plus the Minions (of course, the Minions!), are so heartwarming. With all the bonus features, we can spend hours laughing with the crew!
Minion Christmas Craft
My family is getting in the holiday spirit and to celebrate the release of Despicable Me 3, we put a little Minion twist on some of our decor. This Minion Christmas Craft was so easy and FUN to make! You can probably figure it out just by looking at it but I’ll give you a few pointers below and you can have some fun with this with your children!
Because this is a Christmas-themed craft I chose a plant for my pot that doubles as a little Christmas tree. (You could easily sub in a more summery plant for a different time of year.) This is a thread cypress, so that’s a great option, but you can definitely check out what your local garden center has. I also saw a beautiful rosemary plant that was pruned in the shape of a tree that would have been perfect.
Choose your plant first, then go find a terracotta pot that is the right size for what you chose. These are pretty inexpensive and are easy to paint. Be sure to grab the saucer that fits under the pot to catch any water and dirt that leak out.
At the garden center you need:
- A plant shaped like a Christmas tree (or whatever plant you’d like – a poinsettia would be pretty too!)
- A terracotta pot with saucer that your plant fits inside
- Potting soil
Before you get your plant in the pot, you have to turn it into a Minion! I think Stuart is so cute with his one eye, so we decked our pot out to look like him.
Here are the supplies you need to decorate the pot:
- Acrylic paint in yellow, blue, black, brown, and white (at the craft store or Target)
- Paint brushes (one foam brush and one smaller brush)
- One canning lid and band
- Super glue
Spread out some newspaper or a piece of cardboard, and start painting! This paint does dry pretty quickly, but I painted one day and then planted the pot the next just to make sure everything was dry and set.
Paint the saucer blue (inside and outside, but not the bottom), the pot yellow (outside only), and the rim (inside and out) of the pot black. To create the eye, paint the inside of the canning lid white. Add a brown circle with a smaller black circle inside of it for the eye. Put the lid inside of the canning band, and add superglue all the way around the circumference to hold the lid in place. Once the lid and ring are securely attached to each other AND the paint is completely dry, superglue the eye to the rim of the pot. I used a vice grip to hold it in place until it dried.
Finally, put your plant in the pot! I added a string of copper lights to really commit to the Christmas theme. It’s SO pretty! I have this near the front door so everyone that comes into the house sees it right away. Everyone loves it and thinks the Minion-theme is so cute!
My kids love Despicable Me 3 and we had a blast making these together. You could definitely grab some much smaller pots and get those tiny poinsettias and make a whole bunch of these with the kids for a fun craft project. Instead of a canning lid for the eye, in that case I might use a bottle top. Be creative!
