There is so much to do and see in Philadelphia for families with kids, and staying in the city is the best way to experience it all. The Logan – Philadelphia’s Hotel is in the heart of all the best things to do with the kids and it’s a gorgeous hotel with a prime location for family fun.
Take a look at the highlights reel of our hosted stay, and read on for more photos and info on planning your visit.
The Logan – Philadelphia’s Hotel
The Logan is actually a Hilton Curio Collection hotel, so it’s got all the class and quality you’d expect from the Hilton name. You can pull right up into this carport for valet parking. It’s a bit pricey so if that’s a concern, consider parking in a lot down the road. But the convenience of not having to find a lot and walk is sometimes worth a few extra bucks.
The inside of the hotel has a modern artsy feel and it was fun to explore all of the different pieces throughout. The figure eight on the ceiling in the lobby features photos of over 300 of Philadelphia’s who’s-who, important and influential people from the city.
There are several comfortable spots to sit and chat on the first floor, including one in front of a cozy fireplace near the bar.
These human sculptures were particularly interesting and unique. Along the right wall, which you can’t see in the photo, is more seating. The hotel is dog-friendly and while we didn’t bring our pup, my family loved seeing the dogs that other guests brought in.
There are 3 dining (and drinking) options at The Logan. The first is The Commons, which is the bar in the lobby. Not the place to take your kids, but if you get a moment alone for some adult time it’s a great place to grab a cocktail at the end of the night. Assembly is the rooftop lounge, also a spot for adults to enjoy a drink.
The restaurant that’s family-friendly at The Logan is Urban Farmer. You can see in the pic above it has a really fun and modern vibe. The food is farm-to-table, really fresh and delicious. You can even order room service from Urban Farmer! If you have the type of kids that appreciate great food (mine are pretty adventurous eaters so this was great for us), it’s worth checking out. If they are the easy-to-please type that prefer chicken nuggets, I would probably skip this restaurant because you do pay a bit more for the fresh, local ingredients that make it a unique dining experience.
The Logan has a great fitness center adjacent to the pool which is lit up a really cool blue color. The kids definitely enjoyed this part of the hotel and there’s plenty of seating on the pool deck to watch the kids play if you don’t want to jump in with them (but you should totally jump in with them!).
The view from our room was an interior view behind the building. You can see that cute courtyard I mentioned earlier, a great place to sit outside and enjoy some fresh air, or get your doggy out for a stroll.
We LOVED our room at The Logan. Super comfortable beds, and that artsy feel you see in the common areas carries throughout the entire hotel. The first thing the kids did was take a flying leap from one bed to the other. Of course they did.
A beautiful bathroom included a tiled shower, plenty of counter space at the vanity, and a nice assortment of bath and body products.
Location, Location, Location
I’m a country girl so while I love to see the sights in the city, I don’t really know my way around and public transportation in a new place isn’t exactly my comfort zone. So the thing that is the major selling point for families looking to stay at The Logan is location, location, location. We valeted the car and didn’t use it again until we left to go home. Everything you want to do is within walking distance.
Directly across the street is Logan Circle, a beautiful park that’s features Swann Memorial Fountain. It wasn’t even very warm when we visited but you weren’t going to keep my kids out of the water! My son’s face says something about how cold his feet were at the moment! This is a fun stop for some outdoor play and a great place for photos in the city.
The Logan Hotel is within walking distance of so many popular attractions in Philadelphia, including Reading Terminal Market (we love it there – huge selection of delicious food!), Rittenhouse Square, The Barnes Foundation Museum, The Philadelphia Museum of Art, The Rodin Museum, and The Academy of Natural Sciences.
Our favorite nearby spot is The Franklin Institute. Education is never better than when the kids are having fun learning, and that’s exactly what happens at The Franklin. And it’s literally steps from The Logan!
Our favorite area of the museum is The Brain. The exhibits are so interactive and educational. This is where I learned that multitasking is a myth – it’s actually not possible to be thinking of two things at once. So much for that, moms.
Climbing around in the brain was probably the kids’ favorite part of our visit. The lights change colors in here and you really feel like you’re inside of a brain. Very cool!
There are tons of dining options in the city and we found a little gem right down the road from The Logan. We love to dine al fresco and Con Murphy’s is an Irish pub with outdoor seating. It’s family-friendly and had a great kids’ menu. My husband and I split a beer flight and we got some deeeelicious burgers.
Is that delicious pub food or what? And the service was awesome. It’s just one of many options within walking distance to The Logan.
If you want to explore some of the best spots for kids in Philadelphia and don’t want to drive all over the city or try to figure out public transportation, The Logan is the perfect spot to plan your stay. The hotel is comfortable and classy, and it’s really close to everything you’ll want to do with the kids. I just loved that we could easily walk everywhere we wanted to go (and not one kid complained that they were tired of walking – everything is really close!). Be sure to take a look at their Family Fun Package!
