Aren’t we always after our kids to keep them healthy and safe? Buckle up. Get your helmet on. Don’t forget the sunscreen. Repeat, repeat, repeat.
Brushing teeth is such an important way to keep kids healthy and thankfully my kids don’t give me a hard time, but this wasn’t always the case. I remember some heated battles with my daughter Lily when she was toddlerish age to get her teeth brushed. The struggle is real for a lot of parents.
Sometimes all you need to do is make a game out of it, make it fun, and the struggle disappears. Magic! When the folks at Colgate Bright Smiles, Bright Futures® asked if I’d share their great new (FREE!) app with you I was definitely on board. Anything to make parents’ lives easier is cool with me.
Half a billion kids around the world have benefited from this oral health education program. Now, it’s offering a free, educational app: “My Bright Smile.”
“My Bright Smile” is available for free in the Apple App Store and the Google Play Store. The app includes five games, including “Visit the Dentist,” “Swipe the Sweets” and “Brush the Teeth.” There’s even a two-minute song that will help keep your kids brushing until every tooth is cleaned. This song is what keeps them brushing and is my favorite component of the app.
Some messages children will hear while they’re playing:
- Brush with fluoride toothpaste after breakfast and before bedtime
- Floss every day
- Visit your dentist regularly
- Limit the number of times you eat sweet and sticky snacks
What I also like about it is that I feel comfortable letting my kids use this app. It doesn’t store any personal info or send anything back to Colgate to be collected.
Colgate Bright Smiles, Bright Futures® is among the most far-reaching, successful children’s oral health initiatives in the world, reaching children in 80 countries with free dental screenings and oral health education (3.5 million per year in the US alone!).
I love that they’ve extended their classroom efforts and can reach parents and kids at home WHILE they are actually practicing good oral hygiene habits.
Plus this app is straight up FUN! The kids love it and it motivates them to brush (which means I don’t have to be the one saying, “Let’s go, time to brush your teeth!).
