Last week my family went on a week-long vacation to the beach. It was…awesome. We’ve gone a few times already this year but usually only for 3-4 days, just a long weekend. It’s never long enough to do all the things we want to do so we committed to taking an entire week to unplug, unwind, and just enjoy ourselves as a family. I highly recommend it.
Since there’s no wifi connection where we stay, I was forced to stay away from the Internet, though I’m sorta addicted and got mini fixes on my phone. But there was no blogging, no emailing, and not much Facebooking or Tweeting either. So what did I do for a whole 9 days without my laptop to keep me busy? Read on…
I read books. A lot of them. I’m seriously addicted to my Nook. I loaded it up before we left and read about seven books while we were gone. Bliss. One I loved was The Sweet Gum Tree.
I discovered Instagram. Are you using Instagram? Come find me: linsefrank. I love being able to take photos and share them in a cool way, and wow. I’ve seen some REALLY awesome pictures from friends and photogs that I follow.
I saw rainbows in the clouds. One day we were sitting on the beach and I looked up at the sky and saw this. I had never seen anything like it before, a rainbow in the clouds. The next day my 3yo. son spotted another one while we were driving down the coast on an adventure. Come to find out, this is called a circumhorizontal arc and it’s pretty rare. So we got lucky spotting it. So pretty, right?! The kids loved it and so did we.
I ran with my dog on the beach. He was in his element and boy, is he ever fast! I loved watching him race through the sand.
I climbed 199 steps to the top of the Cape May lighthouse. Yes, I counted the steps (on the way down). My kids each made the climb too. What a great view from the top!
I ate a lot of really good food. My parents are both from Maine so I was introduced to a love of lobster early in life. When we went out for a yummy seafood dinner I had to get this big guy. Soooo good. Fortunately for me, the busyness of romping up and down the beach offset the deliciousness I was shoving in my mouth and I came home a half a pound lighter. Go me!
I celebrated my 10 year anniversary! My husband and I fed the kids ice cream for dinner and when they went to bed we ordered sushi and cracked open a bottle of wine. We have to plan a real date night now that we’re home, but that was perfect while we were beachin’ it.
Those are my beach vaca highlights. We had a great time. Now if only the laundry would do itself….
Tell me, what fun adventures have you had this summer?

Looks like you all had a great time – LOVED your pictures! Also, happy belated anniversary! We haven’t had any fun adventures yet… except getting rid of 1 or 2 kids while my husband had the week off. 🙂
