Gorton’s Grilled Shrimp: Fast and Fancy Seafood Dinner

This post may contain affiliate links. View my disclosure policy for details.

We’ve bought Gorton’s products here and there for years.  The kids like fish sticks, we can all sing that ‘trust the Gorton’s fisherman’ song by heart, and one time there was someone dressed up like the Gorton’s fisherman at our local grocery store.  That’s a true story.  So when Gorton’s offered me the opportunity to make a meal with one of their goodies, I was thinking about fish sticks.  I admit, I had no clue Gorton’s made so many other great seafood products!

I sent my husband to the store to pick out a new Gorton’s product for us to try and he came home with the Garlic Grilled Shrimp.  Who knew Gorton’s made shrimp?  Not me!  I was pretty excited about this because I love shrimp and so do our kids, plus it’s nice to eat something fast that doesn’t feel like ‘kid’ food.  In fact, this selection is only 110 calories per serving.  Gorton’s now has 20 products that are under 200 calories which makes eating seafood quick and easy AND a healthy option.  I love this because I often struggle to think of healthy meal ideas for my family that keep some variety in the mix.  They get sick of the same old same old and so do I.  And eating seafood is healthy, indeed, primary because of those omega-3 fatty acids.

Studies show that a diet containing omega-3 fatty acids may:

  • Promote heart health
  • Decrease blood pressure, triglycerides, and cholesterol leves
  • Improve arthritis and joint pain
  • Lessen symptoms of depression and ADHD
  • Support eye health
  • Enhance brain growth and development
  • Aid brain growth in unborn babies, infants, and kids
  • Decrease the risk for certain cancers
  • Reduce the symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease

That’s quite a list of reasons why eating seafood twice a week is a smart thing to do.  And let me tell you, when you combine smart and easy you’ve got my attention.

Gorton’s has tons of awesome recipes on their website that give you great ideas for dressing up their products.  To be honest, the biggest appeal to me is that Gorton’s products are quick and easy to cook.  And I really like some of their newer products like this Grilled Garlic Shrimp because it’s not hard to put together a fancy looking (and tasting!) meal with little time and effort. So when we tried out our shrimp we served it up with two of the kids’ favorites: couscous and steamed broccoli.  The shrimp itself was very easy to cook.  You just saute it in a pan.  Then we plated up the couscous and served the garlic shrimp on top and the steamed broccoli on the side. The only thing I wished was that we had more!  My kids scarfed down the shrimp and my husband and I only got a few each.  It was so tasty!
