We get such a kick out of the Elephant & Piggie Books from author Mo Willems. Just before school let out last spring I had a really cool #Thankorama party with my son’s first grade class that was so neat. These books really engage kids in such a fun way.

Now there is a new Elephant and Piggie series out, Elephant & Piggie Love Reading! The first two books in the #EPLR series hit shelves September 20th: We are Growing and Cookie Fiasco. We have partnered with Disney-Hyperion to share them with you. They’re ADORABLE!!

Elephant and Piggie Love Reading

Best friends Elephant and Piggie introduce kids to their favorite books – brought to life in original stories created by contemporary children’s book authors and illustrators. Each 64-page beginning reader delivers a high quality reading experience that speaks to kids’ interests and abilities through stories that are fun and funny. The defining dialogue-driven format, established in the Elephant & Piggie series, unifies the collection with an active, participatory storytelling style that fans love. Plus, each book contains all-new Elephant & Piggie story bumpers!

My son is in 2nd grade now so his reading level is a more advanced than these books, but to be honest, he eats them right up regardless. The pictures are so lively and the stories are just so much fun to read. Even my 5th grader had to sneak over and listen in on what we were reading!

Take a closer look at each of these two new books that are available now!

Cookie Fiasco

dansantatFour Friends. Three Cookies. One Problem.

Hippo, Croc, and the Squirrels are determined to have equal cookies for all! But how? There are only three cookies . . . And four of them. . . What’s more, they need to act fast before nervous Hippo breaks all the cookies into crumbs!

This book is so much fun to read! It’s pretty educational, too. A little math lesson tucked in there!

Dan Santat is the author and illustrator of the recent Caldecott winner, The Adventures of Beekle: The Unimaginary Friend, and many other books. For Disney-Hyperion he illustrated Oh, No! and Oh, No! Not Again! by Mac Barnett, Always Lots of Heinies at the Zoo by Ayun Halliday, and Because I’m Your Dad by Ahmet Zappa. He is also the creator of Disney’s animated hit The Replacements. Dan lives in Southern California with his wife, two kids, and two dogs.

We Are Growing

lauriekellerGrowing up isn’t always the EASIEST

Walt and his friends are growing up fast! Everyone is the something-est. But . . . what about Walt? He is not the tallest, or the curliest, or the silliest. He is not the anything-est! As a BIG surprise inches closer, Walt discovers something special of his own!

This is a really sweet book with a great message about finding what’s special about you, even if that means it’s not always really obvious.

Laurie Keller, an award-winning author and illustrator, has created many children’s books including Birdy’s Smile Book, The Scrambled States of America Talent Show, and Do Unto Otters, a Bank Street Best Children’s Book of the Year. Laurie lives near Lake Michigan.

They’d love “We Are Growing” since we just started a garden this Summer and my girls help me water the garden and take care of it. They are talking about it daily watching the flowers grow and asking questions. I love it!

Both books would be very much enjoyed. The book, We are Growing looks like it’d be a great read aloud in my first grade classroom about how everyone “grows” or “learns” new things at different times. Cookie Fiasco looks like a fun book to read and maybe tie in how to solve problems. Thanks for the chance! I love Mo Willems!
