This cute little black and white cat is a stray that roams our neighborhood. We put food out for him a couple of times each day. He’s come to expect it and will hop up on the back step and stare at us through the back door until we bring him something to eat. Very demanding, just like the rest of our pets. He fits right in! We named him Dasher a couple of years ago when he first started coming around because it was just before Christmas (get the reindeer connection?) and he dashed away any time you tried to get close to him. We still can’t get close enough to pet him but if we’re outside gardening or grilling, Dasher likes to hang out and be part of the family. Santa even fills a stocking for him and leaves it at our house! (Yes, we’re a bunch of suckers for homeless pets.)
My husband decided to built a little house for Dasher to give him a place to go in the winter to escape the wind and snow. He made this great house and my son picked out the orange paint color. That child would paint the world orange if he could. My daughter pitched in too and together this is what they built for Dasher! We just put it outside today and gave him some lunch on his new doorstep. I think he likes it! Hopefully he’ll use it to stay more comfortable this winter. Everyone needs a home, right?
