#26Acts: Kindness for Newtown (1)

This post may contain affiliate links. View my disclosure policy for details.

My heart is broken for the people of Newtown, Connecticut after the unimaginable tragedy that struck their town, their children, last Friday the 14th.  I have two kids of my own, one a little girl in first grade.  I see the faces of those innocent children on the news and I think of my own daughter.  How do you recover from something like that?  I can’t even begin to imagine.

What I do know is that the entire nation is mourning the loss of these lives and everyone wants to do something to help.  I read about Ann Curry’s idea of paying it forward by committing 26 random acts of kindness in memory of each of the victims killed at Sandy Hook Elementary and I loved the idea!  So I’m in!  I’m going to share my acts of kindness with you and hope you’ll join in too!

Tell me what you’re doing by leaving a comment, tweet it to me, send me your blog post, email me at pandorasdeals (at) gmail (dot) com and give me your ideas.  Post them on my Facebook wall! Let’s share them with each other and in the process honor these little lives lost far too soon.

Today I did my first little good deed by buying some canned goods and adding to the donation drive at my daughter’s school.  This is a picture I took of only one box of many that the kids and families at her school came together to give to people in need in our community.  So easy to do, and it will make a difference to someone.  These acts don’t need to be huge or expensive.  Every little act of kindness is meaningful.

I asked my kids for more ideas of ways we could spread kindness in the coming weeks and they have some good ones!  I can’t wait to get rolling.  One down, 25 to go!

I am trying to do a random act each day. On Monday  I sent some money through paypal to a woman who was struggling with buying her autistic daughter Christmas presents. On Tuesday I donated money to a company making capes for all the children that attended the school where the shootings took place. Today I took my son’s teach a Willow Tree Angel to thank her for her dedication to education..

My wife and I decided to donate some toys to the library for tge Christmas toy drive. Then, my little girl and I took them to the lady at the front desk and dropped them off. The librarian was very cheerful and she wished us a Merry Christmas. I am glad that people are willing to take time to help the children who are less fortunate. I am sure that the victims families would be comforted to know that their loved ones are still inspiring people to pull together and help others.

What a great way to pay it forward! I love it, Arthur. And I totally agree. If there is any possibility of good coming out of this nightmare I think we’re seeing it with people helping each other in honor of the victims. Merry Christmas!
