We live in an age of tablets and video games and my kids are not immune to it. Honestly they use tablets and laptops every day in school (elementary school!) so being familiar with how they work only helps them. But there has to be a limit on the screen time and I find that so much easier to do with less resistance from the kids when we have fun, active play toys in the house. I’ve made it a point to look for toys that are going to get my kids up and moving in 2015 to give as gifts over the holidays. Don’t get me wrong: My kids both play soccer and love to be outside. They aren’t total couch potatoes. But some smart planning on my part doesn’t hurt in my effort to limit the passive play and get their little bodies moving! Fat Brain Toys is one of my very favorite places to shop for my kids (I have a giant Christmas order scheduled to be delivered today!!). Not only do they have so many toys and games that keep kids’ brains active, but they have plenty of toys for active bodies too! Here are my top 5 picks for my kids. Head over to Fat Brain Toys and see what other unique toys you can find to keep your kids moving!
Top 5 Fat Brain Toys to Get My Kids Active in 2015

Chalktrail®
Now this is cool. Hook Chalktrail to any bike and draw as you ride! My daughter has little interest in riding her bike but she loves to draw so I definitely think this is going to motivate her to hop on and ride. They also make a Chalktrail for scooters. I kind of want one myself! Ride in circles and draw them on the pavement below, or make figure 8s. Kids can get so creative with this!

Kiwido
Check out the Kiwido video to see how this toy works. It looks so fun! I’m picturing my kids playing with this one the beach this summer. “Kiwido, a game originally played by the Maori of New Zealand, beautifully combines dynamic motion, aesthetics and dancing elements. The swinging toy is easy to learn with spectacular effects right away.” It comes with a CD-ROM to demonstrate how to get started but I know my kids are going to make up their own moves. (And yes, this is another toy I kinda want for myself.)
Mini Beamo
We have a larger one of these that I got many years ago and we LOVE it, though it’s really a little to large for the kids to manage. The Mini Beamo is the perfect size and flies like a frisbee but in my opinion it’s much easy to catch and a lot more fun to play with! It’s lightweight and soft, perfect for little hands. And it flies up to 100 feet!

Djubi Junior
I don’t know what it is with my kids, especially my son, but he loves to fling things. The Djubi Junior is right up his alley! “Just hook the loop over the launch hook, pull it back, and aim. Let it go and watch the djubi Jr. ball soar up to 100 feet. Next you catch it with the deep net pocket on the specially designed racket. The net has a little larger opening than the original Djubi making it easier for younger players.” I love that this toy is good for young kids but can be enjoyed by older kids too. Sometimes it’s really hard to find something that works for both my son and my daughter so I really appreciate a toy like this one.

Tangle Sportz Matrix NightBall Soccer
I bought this one for my kids for Christmas and I know it’s going to be a favorite gift. They both play soccer and when it gets dark outside, we have to come in. But now…we’re staying out! The Tangle Sportz Matrix NightBall Soccer lights up in the dark so you can keep playing and have some serious fun. I can’t wait to try this. And the ball is waterproof and even floats. Awesome!
