We are almost into prime berry season! If you are planning on going berry picking, stock up so you can make some homemade jam.

Have you ever wanted to just bottle up summer? Well, you can! Making homemade jam takes some of the best things about summer, like fresh blueberries, strawberries, and raspberries, and turns them into a homemade jam you can enjoy all year round.

Making homemade jam is easier than you think and can be used in a variety of ways. Spread on some toast or scones, add a filling to your thumbprint cookies, or even drizzle on top of your ice cream. The possibilities are endless in using up your homemade jam.

Before you jump into these homemade jam recipes, there are a few things you need to know.

Tips for Making Homemade Jam

  • Make sure you thoroughly wash your fruit before preparing your jam.
  • Chop up your fruit well.
  • Do not use overripe fruit. You want fresh just-picked berries for your jam. When possible, use slightly under-ripe fruit when pectin levels will be at the highest.
  • Make sure your equipment is clean! Boil your jars, towels, and lids before using.
