How To Bake Your Best Holiday Yet

October 20, 2017

I have been compensated in the form of a Best Buy Gift Card and/or received the product/service at a reduced price or for free. The opinions in this post are 100% mine.  You can read my full disclosure policy here.

One of the very best parts of the holidays is all the FOOD! Certain dishes only get made during this time of year, right? I look forward to it for months. And it’s not just the food but the traditions that go with it: a family cookie bake, Christmas Eve meals, all of that stuff.

I am desperate to actually relax and enjoy the holiday season instead of feeling like I’m losing my mind doing a million things right up until Santa shows up. It’s only October right now but I am already thinking about little things I can do to get ready now, so that when the holidays are here I can breathe and be a part of the fun.

Here are 3 ways you can bake your best holiday yet – no matter what’s cookin’ in your kitchen!

Prepare Yourself

That’s the name of the game: Do like a Boy Scout and be prepared. I don’t know about you, but I constantly find myself so distracted with little tasks that steal my attention. It makes it hard to tackle the bigger picture and then I’m stressed over not getting major jobs done. So this year, I want to prepare in advance by crossing some of those little things off of my list.

This Chocolate Crinkle Cookies Recipe is my all-time favorite Christmas cookie. My Mom makes them every year - it's a holiday tradition!

Gather Recipes

Every year at Christmastime I’m texting my Mom, “Send me the Crinkle recipe. I can’t find it.” Last year I actually put it on the blog so now I have no excuse, but you know what I mean. That recipe you earmarked in a magazine, those cookies on Pinterest you’re dying to try. Who knows where they are when it’s time to make them? Go find them NOW. Get a folder (digital or a real file folder) and get your recipes in one place. Call your Mom and get her recipes too. (Here are some of my favorite holiday desserts!)

Buy Ingredients

We bake a lot of cookies, so I know I’m going to go through a boatload of sugar, flour, vanilla, all that stuff. Hit your grocery store (or better yet, the warehouse store and buy in bulk!) and stock up on ingredients so you don’t run out. Getting halfway through a recipe and realizing you’re out of vanilla and need to go to the store is no fun. Ask me how I know.

Take Stock of Storage

This one is often overlooked, but start taking stock: where are you going to put all this food you’re making? If you send people home with leftovers, get some containers. If you’re sharing cookies with teachers and neighbors, get some tins. You want to keep all the cookies for yourself? I feel you, sister.  Better check the freezer and make sure you have some space ready in there to store them.

Prepare Your Kitchen

It’s a bit tricky to pull off the family cookie bake and the giant holiday meals if your kitchen isn’t up to par. If having more modern appliances makes it easier to do the holidays, it might be time to hit Best Buy and check out these LG kitchen appliances.

I love the modern, sleek design. That new matte black stainless finish is so classy. But the great thing is the functionality. LG makes a Double Oven with ProBake that is like having two ovens in one: Air is circulated evenly throughout the lower oven OR ProBake Convection speeds cooking times for fast and flavorful meals. If you look at the top image in this post you can get a better feel for it. How handy is that?

This refrigerator is GOALS in the kitchen. The LG InstaView lets you knock twice and see what’s inside. Who else has no idea if they’re out of milk at any given time? Raising my hand high over here. This is such a handy feature, and I love the french doors that open wide to allow you to slide a whole tray of food in there – perfect when you’re entertaining!

Give Yourself The Gift of Enjoying The Holidays

Once you’ve prepared yourself and your kitchen the best you can, make yourself a promise to RELAX and enjoy the holidays. Let the kids remember you as the mom who wrecked the kitchen baking them their favorite cookies, not the mom who freaked out that the kitchen was wrecked. I’m going to do my best to lighten up, which will be easier if I can get myself prepared in advance, and enjoy the holidays more this year. That’s my wish for you, too!
