My family loves nature. The kids have the most fun exploring outside and it’s always an educational experience too. Each year we grow butterflies in our own backyard and release them. Monarchs are gorgeous and they have quite a story, too! Did you know they are part of the largest insect migration…ever?

We were sent a review copy and watched it as a family a few days ago. It’s both a great story and an educational film with truly stunning captures of monarchs in flight!

What did we think?
My family watched Flight of the Butterflies together the other night after dinner. It captured the attention of all of us, both my husband and myself and the kids, ages 10 and 7. The movie only runs for 44 minutes so it’s just enough to tell the story, explain the butterfly life cycle and migration pattern, and show some stunning imagery.
It’s really just beautiful to watch, but it’s also a great story of the scientists that were able to track the migration pattern of monarchs, plus it’s really educational. We see monarchs everywhere in our neck of the woods over the summer months. Now we know where they’re headed!
There are a bunch of special features on the disc, too, that include interviews with the cast and crew. I always like to hear about how these films are made. Capturing a butterfly in flight as much as a mile above the Earth is a pretty amazing thing to film!

The whole family would enjoy this film. We have a butterfly plant garden with lots of flowers and plants that the Monarchs like. The kids would enjoy watching in the movie what the rest of the butterfly journey contains.

Oh our family would love to watch this! We love the Monarchs and help raise them. Last summer we planted a bunch of milkweed…and found that something was eating the eggs and chrysalis. So we started bringing them inside and we raised them. We released over 100 last year…hoping for 200 this year. I actually have 6 babies hatching out of their eggs this afternoon! Just see their little heads starting to emerge! I would love to see this movie and see all about their flight to Mexico!
