Coming off of Christmas vacation and now having another snow day on the books I’ve spent LOTS of time with  my kids in the past couple of weeks.  We’ve had so much fun, playing in the snow, driving around looking at Christmas lights, decorating the tree, and baking cookies together.  Creating those memories and traditions with them makes me remember the things I enjoyed doing with my own family as a kid.

Every summer we went to Rehoboth Beach in Delaware and would jump in the waves and dig up crabs out of the sand.  We had a swimming pool when I was pretty young and would spend the entire summer jumping in and out of the pool.  We had so much fun, just as my kids do.  And I feel so fortunate to have been a happy, healthy kid to create those memories and that my kids are healthy and we can share those experiences too.

Unfortunately that is not true for all kids. An alarming number of children all over the world, and yes, some right here in the United States, are undernourished and not healthy and strong enough to enjoy the freedom and fun that should be packaged with every childhood.  I was so interested in learning about Vitamin Angels, a non-profit organization that is distributing vitamins and minerals to children and mothers in need in over 50 countries around the world!  They believe that good nutrition is the basic foundation that gives kids the chance to be…kids, complete with laughter and fun.  I agree. This year alone 3.1 million children will lose their chance to play and enjoy childhood due to undernutrition.  Yikes. That’s a pretty scary figure.

Vitamin Angels has an amazing campaign called Give Childhood to Give Childhood back to children in need.  The astounding thing about it is how EASY it is to make a difference in the life of a child.  What would you pay to see your child live a happy, healthy, carefree life? Priceless, I say.  So how much would you give to give that gift to another child?  Would you give $.25? Because that’s all it takes to provide an entire year’s worth of Vitamin A to one child.  A quarter!  That means if you gave $5 you’d provide that nutrient for a year for 20 kids. That’s my daughter’s entire class. Yup, I’d give $5 for those kids.

This year Vitamin Angels hopes to change the lives of 40 million children through this fundraising effort. We can make a difference by visiting Vitamin Angels Give Childhood to make a donation that will help deliver essential vitamins and minerals to at risk children in need.  I’ll say it again: It’s so so easy to give $5, $10, $15, or whatever you can afford.  They’re not asking for your life savings to make a difference to a kid. It doesn’t take that much to change a child’s life.  That’s the awesome part. Imagine if we all threw in a few bucks. What could we do to raise the bar on childhood for ALL kids?

Your support today will give the gift of childhood to those in need worldwide so please donate now.
