I was provided with a complimentary Origami Owl necklace and charms to facilitate this review. The opinions in this post are 100% mine. You can read my full disclosure policy here.
I’ve got some really fun reviews and giveaways planned for Pandora’s Deals’ 2013 Holiday Gift Guide. First up this year is one of my very favorite new things, Origami Owl Jewelry. I had heard the brand name before but wasn’t too familiar with the jewelry until one of my good friends started selling it as an Independent Designer. I started to see some of the cool necklaces Emily was posting on her Origami Owl Facebook page and fell in love! I love custom jewelry anyway and this line has a whole new 3D twist. Plus the owner is only 17 years-old which had me totally intrigued!
How do you design an Origami Owl necklace?
It’s really pretty easy and a whole lot of fun! Go here to see all the options and make your selections. I actually chose my locket and chain first, then a plate I liked and then the charms, but you can do it in the order suggested above or whatever you’d like! You can be as creative as you want to and customize your piece in a million different ways! There are different sizes of lockets, different colors, different color chains, tons and tons of unique charms, and more. You’ll definitely want to get at least a couple of charms for your locket (they’re only $5 each) and the plates and dangles are optional added bonuses. I wanted a plate but skipped the dangle. Maybe I’ll add one later!
How much does an Origami Owl necklace cost?
That’s going to depend how many charms you add, what size locket you get, and other customizations you choose. The lockets start at only $20, the chains at $8. And you could use a chain you already have if you want to, though I must say I really love the ball chain I got! Those are the basics and you can add to it from there. It’s really a very good deal (especially if you host a party and get some freebies – more on that later). I have a beautiful custom necklace that my husband got me for Christmas one year that was over $75. This one from Origami Owl is just as special and much less expensive.
Look at the necklace I got!
I am so in love with this necklace. I’ve worn it every single day since I got it. First, the packaging it comes tells you immediately it’s something special. Don’t you love the little box and pouch it comes in? So cute and fuctional! Of course the necklace itself is the real stunner.
I got the Medium Black Locket with a Black Ball Station Chain. I love this color because it goes with absolutely everything and the black really stands out. I loved the Dream Plate (only $8!) so I grabbed that along with some of my favorite charms.
Going counterclockwise I got the camera since I’m always snapping pictures, a laptop to represent my blog, and flip flops because I love the beach and summertime! The last three charms are birthstones. It might be hard to tell from the picture but the red heart is for July, the month my husband and I got married. And then there’s my daughter’s birthstone and my son’s. I love each one because they’re meaningful to me and I really love how they look together.
I want to show you a close up of the ball station chain that I got. It’s so unique with the little balls spaced out. I love the way it looks and one real bonus for me is doesn’t slide as easily as a smooth chain would I almost never find that the clasp has worked its way around to the front. That sorta drives me nuts so I really like that that’s not a problem with this chain.
I just love the way it looks and I really love how you can customize these necklaces. For only $5 each, I plan to order more charms and just switch them out and mix it up for different occasions. My brother-in-law is getting married on New Year’s Eve so I’m going to see if I can find some cool party charms to wear with my dress! The possibilities are endless and once you have the locket and the chain, switching it up is so inexpensive and simple.
To change the style of your necklace just open up the locket. On the left pic you can see the little spot to pry it open. It doesn’t open very far so you don’t have to worry about it being loose and falling open, and in the middle you can see the magnets that hold it tightly closed. It opens plenty far enough to slide your plates and charms in and out.
The plates are optional and this is what mine looks like without a plate. I love the 3D look in just a glass circle too. So many ways to wear Origami Owl!
