I was provided with a complimentary Jabra Solemate to facilitate this review.  The opinions in this post are 100% mine.  You can read my full disclosure policy here.
Jabra Solemate Review

Update: Jabra Solemate is now available in Black and Yellow from T-Mobile!

Music is a constant throughout the day in our house.  I play it in the car, while we’re eating meals, and an impromptu dance party in the living room isn’t unheard of.  My favorite tunes keep me motivated and moving and (go me!) I’ve passed my love of music onto my kids, too. My little guy Leo even says he’s going to be a singer when he grows up.  When I got the opportunity to review the Jabra Solemate, a Bluetooth portable speaker, I was really excited to check it out.  Let’s take our music listening to the next level, right?  I am SO in love with it and really excited to tell you about it!

Jabra Solemate Review

The Jabra Solemate is a lightweight, portable yet powerful wireless (or wired) speaker.  And it ranks in one of the top 5 things that power my day.  I don’t think I could live without it now that I have one.  Let me tell you some of my favorite features.

It’s fast and easy to get started quickly. Neatly packaged with everything you need, the Solemate includes a quick-start guide to get you going in just a couple of minutes. I’m one of those people that doesn’t always read the directions first, and really it was so easy to figure out how to use the speaker I barely had to read the directions. All of the buttons are clearly and intuitively labeled so you can get your Solemate up and running quickly.

The sound quality is amazing.  That’s the point, right? Great sound that’s portable.  And the Solemate delivers.  This is a GREAT sound system in addition to the fact that it’s small and easy to take wherever you go.  It has 3 front facing speakers (2 acoustic tweeters and 1 powerful subwoofer) and a proprietary passive bass radiator. Now that’s not really a language that I speak but the translation is really great sound quality. REALLY great.

It works with all my devices.  I mostly use my Solemate with my phone and play Pandora radio via Bluetooth.  But you can pair it with anything you have music on and set your tunes free.  It comes with an audio cable conveniently stashed right in the sole (see my video below), and a USB cable.  So I can plug it into my MP3 player, laptop, and Kindle and listen to songs I have on any of those devices. Like audiobooks?  Here’s a way to listen without wearing headphones in the house.

Now we can take our tunes outside and really #SetSoundFree.  This has been one of my favorite things to do with the Solemate.  We hang out outside and when you put the tunes on speaker you have an instant party!  It’s been so fun to sit outside in the evenings to roast marshmallows over a campfire while listening to a little Jack Johnson.  Before I would have to crack a window or lug my laptop outside. This is waaaaay easier and sounds so much better.  Plus the little bag that comes with it keeps my speaker safe from moisture and sand (yes, you can take it on the beach!).  No wires!  That’s what they mean by Set Sound Free.     😉

We can call Daddy at work. All of us!  My kids were playing with the Solemate the other day and pretty soon I hear the phone ringing through the speaker and my husband answer….at work.  My son had double clicked the speaker button on top of the Solemate and that action redials the last number you called on your cell (I was connected via Bluetooth at the time).  My husband’s voice came through the speaker and both of the kids and I got to chat with Daddy in the middle of the day!  I’ve put my cell on speakerphone before to do a group chat but it’s always a little hard for everyone to hear clearly. This worked MUCH better!

The Solemate has a long battery life.  One thing I really like about the Solemate is that it tells you how much battery life you have left. I hate when my devices die unexpectedly.  But I’ve found that I don’t need to charge it too often.  It runs for about 8 hours worth of music, and has a standby time of 960 hours.  Talking on the phone with it? You’ll get up to 10 hours of talk time.

Check out my video review to see how easy and FUN it is to use the Jabra Solemate.

Lots of pros. Any cons? Just one.   One isn’t enough to go around.  My kids keep “borrowing” my Solemate to listen to in their rooms. It does look kind of cute among all the ponies, right?!  And my husband and his affinity for playing Phil Collins.  That’s another issue but that’s probably another post.  If we all decide on the same music (and just to be clear by ‘all’ I mean I’ve made an executive decision everyone just agrees with) I can put the Solemate in the middle of the room and we can enjoy it throughout the house.  If I want to work downstairs and the kids are in their rooms and my husband is in the garage, well…  Get in the ring, folks.  I’ll fight ya for it.

Jabra Solemate Review

You can check out the Jabra Solemate on Amazon and Best Buy.  If you’re a music fiend this is a must-have in my opinion.  Seriously, I’ve been fortunate to review lots of products and I can honestly say this is one of my entire family’s absolute favorite things.  There hasn’t been a day we haven’t used it since I opened the box.  It would make an awesome gift for your favorite techy or tunes lover.  (And if I haven’t convinced you go check out the reviews on Amazon and Best Buy.)
