Potatoes are their own food group in my world. My parents are both from Northern Maine, so we lived on them growing up, and now as an adult, they’re still comfort food to me in almost any form. Add some cheesy goodness, and I’m all in.
These Delicious Potatoes Au Gratin are a huge hit with my family and they’re really pretty easy to make.
Don’t be fooled by the cook time on the recipe below. That’s all hands-off time. The actual prep should take 20 minutes or less.
Delicious Potatoes Au Gratin Recipe
These delicious potatoes au gratin are the perfect side dish to almost any meal, and they only require a few simple ingredients.
Ingredients
- ¼ c butter
- ½ onion diced
- ¼ c flour
- 2 c milk
- 1 c sour cream
- ½ lb bacon, cooked and crumbled
- 2 c cheddar, shredded
- ½ c parmesan, shredded
- 4 potatoes, peeled and sliced
Instructions
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Sautee onions in butter.
When onions are soft, slowly add flour.
Slowly whisk in milk and sour cream.
Stir in bacon and 1 ½ c cheddar.
Layer ½ potatoes in a casserole dish and cover with half of the sauce.
Add rest of potatoes and cover with the rest of the sauce.
Sprinkle rest of cheddar and parmesan on top.
Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 30 minutes.
Remove foil and bake additional 25 minutes.
Broil 5 minutes until top is golden.
This is also one of those recipes I think could possibly be even better on day 2. It makes a lot, so you have a good chance of having leftovers. Mmm….so good.
