I was provided with a complimentary review copy of Liberty’s Kids to facilitate this review. The opinions in this post are 100% mine. You can read my full disclosure policy here.
Liberty’s Kids is now out on DVD and available for purchase on Amazon. We got a copy to review and share our thoughts with you and I was really impressed with this series! This set includes 40 episodes and check out some of the voice talent: Whoopi Goldberg, Walter Cronkite, Kathleen Barr, Billy Crystal, Michael Douglas, Warren Buffett, Liam Neeson and more! I love that I can recognize some of the voices during the shows.

So what did we think of Liberty’s Kids?
I really liked the series, even for myself as an adult. I had terrible history teachers in high school, (sorry Mr. Sawyer, I learned nothing from you) and wasn’t required to take it in college. Now that I’m older, and especially having a husband who is a bit of a history buff and knows a lot, I wish I knew more. So though I know how and when and why America gained her freedom from England, there were a lot of details that I totally missed and I learned a lot watching some of these episodes.
The kids learned a lot, too, though I think my 4yo. son is definitely on the young side to absorb much. My daughter is nearly 8 and she took in a lot more and asked some great questions while we were watching together. Slavery is discussed in the show, which is something that’s maybe a little hard to talk about with kids. I liked the way it was presented and discussed and it gave me a good ‘in’ to carry on a conversation with my daughter about it, so I thought that was an added bonus I wasn’t expecting.
My kids were both a little startled by some of the battle scenes, but that’s part of history and though this is a cartoon it’s based on fact. So we had to chat about that, too.
Overall we all learned a lot and I love that it’s presented in a way that uses personal stories of the characters to keep kids engaged and interested. It definitely doesn’t feel like a history lesson! The reviews on Amazon are outstanding. Everyone from adults like me to young kids, teachers, and homeschooling families love this series. I really like that you can get the entire collection in one set and work your way through it. This is going to be a great resource for us as the kids go through school and start learning more about American history.
