This post is sponsored by ZINK Imaging. The opinions in this post are 100% mine (and I love this gadget!). You can read my full disclosure policy here.
Before life got so busy with two kids and soccer mom duties, I was actually pretty crafty and loved scrapbooking. Now I find I just don’t have the time to get out all that stuff and make a mess on the kitchen table creating cute little projects. But guess what? I have discovered the ZINK hAppy Smart App Printer™ and I’ve got my crafty inspiration back!
I’m going to tell you all about it and show you what I made but here’s the bottom line: This gadget is so easy to use and works directly with your phone or tablet to create endless crafty projects. It’s also amazing for labeling and organization (something I badly need!). If you think you don’t have time to be creative, think again.
Pictured above is the ZINK hAppy unit in the bigger box, plus extra zRolls in various sizes (those are the little colorful boxes), a toolkit that makes crafting a little easier (scissors, tweezers, etc.), three different protective wraps just to keep your ZINK hAppy safer and more colorful, and a huge idea book. This is what I was sent to get started with. Let the ideas flow…..
Inside the box is the ZINK hAppy Smart App Printer™, an adapter/power cord, a cleaning zRoll, and a half-inch zRoll.
This is the really cool thing about this unit: it doesn’t use any ink. ZINK = zero ink. Get it? I have no idea how this happens. It’s magical, but you’ll never need to buy ink for it, only the zRoll which is the photo paper it prints on.
The zRolls are the revolutionary ZINK Paper® that are adhesive-backed. This adhesive is acid-free and allows you to quickly and easily remove and reapply your design if placed incorrectly. Over time it will become permanent. I actually tested this out in the pic below when I labeled the dog food, cat food and vice versa. Oh, the horror for my pets!
zRolls come in five different color-coded sizes: 3/8″, 1/2″, 3/4″, 1″, and 2″. Perfect for labels of all kinds!
As soon as I got it out of the box and fired up I made these labels for the pet food containers. Don’t tell me we’re the only ones who have a secret language for our animals? I don’t beliez it. 😉
Here’s the ZINK hAppy unit. It fits in the palm of your hand so it’s very portable. The cord plugs in underneath, and I have the blue protective cover on it in this pic. See the blue roll in the back? That’s the zRoll, or roll of printer paper. It just slides right into the back of the machine.
It comes with a quick start guide that will have you up and running in minutes. Really all you need to do is plug in, insert the zRoll, connect to your WiFi, and download the app on your phone to set up your account. It’s very simple and the steps in the booklet will walk you right through it.
I love, love, love, that you can print pics right from your phone in minutes. With the ZINK Design & Print Studio™ app (it’s free!), you can connect your Instagram and Facebook accounts so you have access to all of those pictures to add to your projects. I got a lot of great pics of our kids over the summer and decided to print those out and make a tiled collage with them.
On a 2″zRoll, I printed out 30 of my favorite Instagram photos from this summer. Then I used the nice little scissors that come in the toolkit to clip them.
Once I had all the pictures printed, clipped, and laid out on a 12″ square piece of scrapbook paper, I used the ZINK hAppy app to create a label for my project. There are different fonts, preloaded artwork and backgrounds, and so many different ways to customize this. I want to note that it’s REALLY easy to use. Very intuitive. I didn’t read any directions on using the app and had it all figured out within a couple of minutes.
Then you hit Print and bam, done! The ZINK hAppy printer spits it right out.
The back peels off of the zRoll paper and makes everything you print into a sticker so I didn’t need any glue or anything to put this together.
My materials:
- a 12″ square frame
- a 12″ square piece of scrapbooking paper (your choice of color/design)
- my phone with the ZINK Design & Print Studio™ app installed
- my ZINK hAppy Smart App Printer™
- a pair of scissors
Isn’t it cute? Such an easy craft and you can either hang it on the wall or display it on a plate stand like this one. All of our favorite summer memories. I love it, and it was so easy to make. Be honest: your Instagram pics are your favorite and you never print them out. Now you can, right at home!
