Groceries delivered to your door? Yes, please. Giant Food Store shoppers, this is a reality and I was invited to try it – I’m already hooked! Just this morning I had put away a week’s worth of groceries and never even left my house.
Busy parents (me), moms who dread shopping with the kids (also me), people who might have a hard time physically navigating the stores, etc. This is perfect for all of us and I’m so impressed with how easy the process is to order your groceries and have them delivered by Peapod by Giant. Let me walk you through it.
First things first: Make sure Peapod by Giant is available in your area. Just go to the website, select New Customer, and punch in your zip code. If it’s available in your zip, you’re in luck! Sign into your Giant account or create one. Make sure you enter your Bonus Card number because these online purchases rack up the points!
Then go shopping! They make it easy to shop, and it is actually a pretty different experience to shop for your groceries online versus being in the actual store. You can start by browsing each aisle, or by shopping this week’s sales. There’s a search feature so if you know just what you want, search for it and add it to your cart in seconds. So easy!
What does grocery delivery cost? You have to place a minimum order of $60 to be able to have it delivered. The image above will show you the delivery cost ranging from $7.95 to $9.95. Is it worth $8 to not have to drive to the store, kill an hour in there, deal with fighting kids, drive home, and unload the car? Why yes, yes it is. I think it’s a great deal.
And there is something called a Peapod Pass where for $69 you’ll get 6 months of free delivery on orders over $100. So I did some quick math and if you average a $100+ order every two weeks for 6 months, your delivery fee works out to more like $5 instead of $7.95. If you order more frequently, that number is even lower. Good deal!
Your check out screen shows you exactly what you’ll be charged, and you get to select your delivery time. Delivery to your home takes 1-2 days, so plan ahead a bit. You can also pick up your groceries in your local store. They’ll have them ready for you!
I had my delivery scheduled for 10am to 12 noon today, Sunday July 12. At 9:27 I got a text that my delivery was up next, and by 9:30 they were here! So they were a little early but no biggie. I like the text alerts so I know when they’re coming.
The Peapod truck pulled up in front of the house, a super nice young man brought all of my groceries right inside the front door, I signed for them and that was it! I had everything put away within minutes and that, my friends, is how you do some smart grocery shopping. Right from your own home. Or anywhere really, because if you have the Peapod app on your phone you can place your grocery order wherever you are!
I am truly loving this service. It makes so much sense. Yes, there is a delivery charge, so there’s a little extra tacked on there. But here’s the savings:
- The time, the gas, the feeling you might lose your mind by the time you leave the store with your kids… 😉
- I only got the items that were on my list that I had ordered. There was no “Ooh, these Twizzlers look good and they’re on sale. I should get these. I love Twizzlers!” Impulse purchases really add up and there’s none of that when you’re ordering online.
- And couponers, they’ll take those too when they deliver and deduct it from your bottom line!
Head over to Peapod by Giant and see if this service is available in your area (fingers crossed for you!). Give it a try! You might just find your new favorite way to grocery shop.
Giant Food Stores is generously offering one of my readers a $75 gift code to try Peapod by Giant grocery delivery PLUS a code to waive that delivery fee. That’s $75 worth of groceries delivered to your door free. Woot! This giveaway is open to US residents (please make sure you that Peapod delivery is available in your area before you take the time to enter) ages 18+ and will end at 11:59pm ET on Friday July 24, 2015.
Good luck!

I love the idea of not getting sucked into a million impulse purchases.

I love the idea of home delivery because I hate grocery shopping. My husband is constantly doing impulse buys and then taking out things that I have in the cart because “I’m pretty sure we don’t need this”.
