Raise your hand if you feel like all you do is laundry? How about run the dishwasher? I’ve got both hands up over here. We rely on our appliances HEAVILY to get us through the days. With two kids who play sports the laundry is doubly fun for me. Being mindful of choosing appliances that aren’t going to cost you an arm and a leg over the long run in utility bills is the smart way to shop.
Fortunately the ENERGY STAR rating you’ll find on many appliances at Best Buy makes it so easy to look for the ones that will keep your utility bills manageable. Reduced energy usage protects the environment (and I’ve mentioned the part about saving you money so this is a win-win).
Choosing Appliances That Save You Money
ENERGY STAR certified consumer electronic products save energy in comparison to non-certified products because they are more efficient in all usage modes: sleep, idle, and on. That is something crazy that I learned over the last year: even when appliances are OFF they can use energy!
Products come with two price tags: the purchase price and the cost of operating the product. ENERGY STAR certified products can help customers save money on operating costs by reducing energy expenses without sacrificing performance. Reducing energy usage is a win for the environment in that it helps to reduce carbon emissions and other pollutants. If you can save the Earth and your bank account in one move, that’s a no-brainer!

Pretty impressive, right? Here are some more details on specific ENERGY STAR appliances that Best Buy carries:
ENERGY STAR Dryers
As I mentioned, I’m in full laundry mode pretty much all of the time. So saving money on running the dryer is pretty important to me.
ENERGY STAR certified dryers use 20 percent less energy than conventional models without sacrificing features or performance. They do this using innovative energy saving technologies, such as moisture sensors that detect when clothes are dry and automatically shut the dryer off. Many ENERGY STAR dryers also include convenient features, such as steam cycles that can help save time on ironing clothes by preventing wrinkles.
And let me tell you, these features are AWESOME. I recently partnered with Best Buy on a review of a Samsung dryer, and it really does dry my clothing faster and shuts off when it’s done. My clothing doesn’t feel like it’s on fire when I take it out. It’s dry, not hot. So it didn’t run a minute longer than needed.
More than 80 percent of American homes have a clothes dryer, so the savings opportunity is huge. If all clothes dryers sold in the US were ENERGY STAR certified, Americans could save $1.5 billion each year in utility costs and prevent greenhouse gas emissions equivalent to more than 2 million vehicles. To choose a dryer that saves energy and money while protecting the environment, look for the ENERGY STAR label.
ENERGY STAR Sound Bars
ENERGY STAR certified audio/video equipment, including sound bars is up to 50 percent more efficient than conventional models. Consumers can maximize their energy savings by bundling ENERGY STAR certified televisions and sound bars and other products. For those of you that binge watch shows or are gamers, this is for you!
