I’ve Been Challenged!
Jane.com and Cents of Style have challenged me to #BeTheGood, do something good for my community, for someone else, anything to bring a little more light into the world. Challenge accepted! I love these kind of pay-it-forward initiatives. Before I tell you what I did to spread a little love, let me tell you about this movement.
The Face Behind #BeTheGood
Meet Courtney, President and Founder of Cents of Style and the smart woman behind this movement. It’s plain to see from her picture that she’s beautiful inside and out. I’ll let her words speak for her:
Our motto here at Cents of Style is “when you look good, you feel good,” and I would add, you can then use that goodness to bless others. Our entire purpose here at
Cents of Style is to empower women to feel a little bit better about themselves through how they present themselves to the world.I feel very strongly about empowering women and girls to know that they are good enough, strong enough and able to be whatever they desire. We have enough messages in this world that tell girls to be something other than themselves, let’s change the message.
We have partnered with Jane.com in our “Be The Good” campaign to raise money for Girls, Inc. A nonprofit dedicated to empowering girls to be strong, smart and bold. As women, let’s empower one another to be better version of ourselves, not sorry imitations of someone else. #bethegood
We Love the Humane League – #BeTheGood to Homeless Animals
We have three pets, two cats and a dog, all former strays that are now spoiled totally rotten…intentionally. They deserve it! The work done by my local Humane League of Lancaster County to care for and place their shelter animals is amazing to me. Each week you’ll find me sharing their Pet of the Week on my site, my way of trying to help spread the message of pet adoption and find these little sweeties their forever home.
I hit the store and grabbed a bunch of things on the Humane League’s wish list and rounded up my kids after school to go visit the shelter. Not only did we enjoy providing some of the things that make caring for these pets easier, but we got to steal a few snuggles. It’s a wonder I didn’t come home with about three new pets that day. We’re at capacity right now, but if we weren’t I’d be adopting left and right!
My Partner in #BeTheGood – Laura at Scratch Cupcakes
Some of my favorite people are those that I know love to be the good in their communities. I’ve had the pleasure of fostering an addiction to Scratch Cupcakes, a divine little cupcake shop that’s close to home for me in Lancaster County, PA. The owner (and world’s best cupcake baker), Laura, is the absolute sweetest gal. It’s no surprise her baked goods are equally amazing. So when I signed on to participate in this campaign and knew I was going to hit the Humane League with a donation, I got in touch with Laura to see if she’d just to join me in making life a little happier for some deserving pups. You see, not only does she bake cupcakes, she bakes PupCups. Yes, for DOGS! My dog, Sam, is a HUGE fan so I know they’re delish!
Of course Laura was thrilled to contribute and sent along a box of PupCups for the shelter dogs. This beagle, Hunter, ate his in one bite, much to the appreciation of my son, Leo! They were a hit! All dogs deserve a special treat once in a while, amirite?
If you’re not local my neck of the woods, I’m sorry you’ll miss out on the cupcakes. BUT, Laura is an amazingly talented cook and you can grab all of her favorite recipes on her food blog, Scratch Made Simple!
This doxie’s name is Vespucci. Look how he hugs me! Shelter animals are the most loving and appreciative of a good home. When you’re next in the market for a new pet, I encourage you to visit your local shelter to find your new best friend!
How Can You Get Involved?
It’s easy! Just get out there and do some good. I’ve got some details below on my challenge for you. In the meantime, visit Jane.com and Cents of Style where you can learn more about this movement and see everyone who is participating. Plus when you buy a Be the Good shirt 100% of proceeds will benefit Girls, Inc.
I challenge YOU! (yes, YOU!)
I challenge all of you to take a part in this movement and spread goodness throughout! I also personally challenge Laura at Scratch Made Simple, who I know does good every day! Good luck my friends… you have 24hrs to complete a service or act of kindness. And when you’re done, come comment or tweet me a pic. I want to see you #bethegood, too!
- Choose a good deed. Could be as simple as paying for the coffee after yours.
- Share your goods. Pick your favorite social channel (Facebook, Instagram, Vine, Twitter, etc.), but first, make sure to take a selfie (or something appropriate to your story), and share your story, big or small. Be sure to use these hashtags to help this campaign spread: #BeTheGood #JaneCares and #CentsofStyle. You’ll see your story featured at Jane.com.
- Tag 1-5 of your friends to do the same within a 24 hr period.
- Look stylish while doing it! Jane.com and Cents of Style are selling some super cute #BeTheGood t-shirts on Jane.com. All profits made will be donated to Girls Inc. an organization that inspires girls to be strong, smart and bold.
I can’t wait to see how we all come together to #BeTheGood this week!
